The First Step to Flawless Results: Wall Preparation

The aesthetic appearance and lifespan of your wallpaper depend not only on the quality of the adhesive but also on how the surface is prepared. According to the Nordic Standard philosophy, for perfect adhesion, the surface must meet four essential requirements: Dry, Smooth, Clean, and Absorbent.

1. Removal of Old Coverings

For perfect bonding (adhesion), old materials must not act as a barrier. Completely remove all traces of old wallpaper, peeling paint layers, and dirt. For stubborn areas, the use of lukewarm water or a specialized wallpaper remover is highly recommended.

2. Surface Leveling and Repair

Wallpaper highlights every imperfection on the surface. Fill all cracks and holes in the wall with the appropriate putty. Once dry, sand the surface until it is perfectly smooth. Remember, even a minor protrusion can appear as a flaw under premium wallpaper.

3. Dust Removal

Dust is the greatest enemy of any adhesive. The fine dust layer generated after sanding reduces the adhesive’s effectiveness. Be sure to clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth to make it entirely dust-free.

4. Priming (Pre-treatment)

This stage regulates the wall’s absorbency. If the wall is too dry, it will instantly absorb the water from the adhesive, preventing a proper bond. Treating the surface with a primer suitable for your wallpaper type maximizes the bonding strength.

5. Dryness and Climate Control

The wall must be completely dry. During the application process, the room temperature should not fall below +18°C, and strong drafts must be avoided to ensure even drying.
